1.89 lakh cop members to be deployed

Around 1, 89,000 police members will be deployed across the country centering the upcoming national election.

And those who are notorious accused will be under special surveillance, said Deputy Inspector General (Operation) of Police (DIG) Anwar Hossain.

“All kind of security measures have been taken for the polling day (Jan 7) so that voters can come to the polling stations without any problem and difficulty,” he said this in a press briefing at the police headquarters on Saturday noon.

He also said all candidates of the upcoming national election are equal to police and there is no partiality from them.

Besides, police will also perform duties with mobile teams, striking teams and the magistrates, said DIG Anwar.

Drive against illegal arms is going on and action to be taken instantly if found any information of clashes. Cases are being filed and police are also arresting those involved in the violence, he said.

The main task of police is to maintain the situation suitable for election and some policemen were transferred and withdrawn as per the directives of the Election Commission (EC), DIG said.

DIG also warned that the punitive measures will be taken if investigations confirm allegations of bias leading to the removal or transfer of police officials.

“We’re investigating police officers who’ve been transferred or removed over bias allegations. If found guilty, they’ll face departmental action,” he added.
