Two held in Dhaka over Tangail shooting

The elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two persons in a case filed over a shooting that left three people critically injured in Tangail Sadar upazila on Sunday night.

The arrestees have been identified as Faruq Hossain 40, son of late Saiful Islam and Kamrul 34, son of late Barek. They are residents of Tangail Sadar upazila.

Based on information, a team of RAB-14 conducted a raid in the capital’s Uttara area on Monday night and arrested them, said RAB spokesperson Commander Khandaker Al Moin.

He said this to the journalists during a press conference at RAB’s media centre in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Tuesday.

According to the case statement, four to five persons, including victims Rokon, Emdad and Siam, were returning home after election campaigning around 11pm on Sunday.

When they arrived in Tangail’s Kathua Jogni area, a gang of armed men led by Faruq and Kamrul opened fire on them, injuring three people.
After being rescued, they were initially brought to a Tangail hospital by locals.

Later, they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment as their condition had deteriorated.

A case was filed at Tangail Sadar police station against six named and 20/25 unnamed people Further legal action will be taken against the arrestees, said the RAB official.
