‘Breach of code could end stopping polling’
Staff Reporter :
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that if the candidates do not follow code of conduct, the upcoming national parliamentary polls can be foiled.
The CEC has sought the cooperation of all the candidates for holding the upcoming national parliamentary election in a festive atmosphere.
The commission chief said that without the sincere cooperation of the candidates, fair and peaceful polling is not possible.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters at the district parishad auditorium in Mymensingh city on Sunday morning.
Earlier, the CEC exchanged views with the candidates of 11 constituencies of the district.
In the afternoon, he briefed the journalists after exchanging views with the election officials, administration officials and officials of law and order forces of six districts of greater Mymensingh.
The CEC told the reporters: “People will forget what happened before the polling day. However, if there is any rigging or coercion at the polling station on the polling day, the election will not be acceptable.”
This time, rejecting any such possibility, CEC said: “If there is vote rigging, the returning officer or even the presiding officer will be able to suspend the voting.”
