Dengue kills 9 more in 24hrs

Nine more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Sunday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 1,661 this year.
During the period, 459 more patients were hospitalized with the viral fever, according to the DGHS.
A total of 2,291 dengue patients, including 580 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
So far the DGHS has recorded 317,232 dengue cases and 313,280 recoveries this year.
September has so far been the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak this year with 396 fatalities and 79,598 cases, according to DGHS data.
“The death toll from dengue infection crossed the 1600-mark as the authorities recorded 1,661 dengue deaths from January 1 to December 9 this year,” a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
On November 15, Bangladesh witnessed 24 dengue deaths, the highest in a single day this year.
“During the period, 86 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city while 373 were admitted to different hospitals outside the capital city,” the DGHS daily statement added.
“This year, 1,661 deaths, the highest in a year since dengue was detected in 2000, were reported from dengue disease while 281 died last year,” the statement said.
With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 3,17,232 the statement said, adding: “This year, some 3,13,280 patients were released from different hospitals out of the total patients.”
