431 appealed against returning officers’ decision in EC

A total of 431 people have so far filed appeals in the Election Commission (EC) against the decision of the Returning Officers (ROs) in the selection of nomination papers for the upcoming 12th parliamentary election slated for January 7, 2024.

Among them, 93 candidates filed appeals on the fourth day (Friday), 155 people on the third day, 141 people on the second day and 42 ones on the first day, an official of the legal wing of the EC Secretariat gave this information on Friday.

On Friday, 17 candidates from Dhaka region, 11 from Comilla, nine from Chittagong, five from Faridpur, four from Sylhet, 14 from Mymensingh, four from Barisal, 11 from Khulna, 13 from Rajshahi and five from Rangpur region filed appeals.

As per the EC schedule, the submitted nomination papers were scrutinized from December 1 to 4.
Appeal against the order of the RO will be filed and disposed of in the Commission from December 6 to 15.
