1200 runners to take part in half marathon in Sylhet

Like every year Sylhet Runners Community is going to organize Sylhet Half Marathon.

‘Unimart Sylhet Half Marathon 2023’ will be held at 6 am on Friday, December 8 under the main sponsorship of Unimart in which at least 1200 runners from home and abroad are participating.

Syed Fazlur Rahim Sohag, Syed Fazlur Rahim Sohag, administrator of Sylhet Runners Community, said in a press conference at noon on Monday (04 November), that the event will be held in two categories of 21.1 km and 10 km. 200 people including 10 women and 190 men are participating in the 21.1 km. A total of 1000 runners are participating in the 10 km category, 95 women and 905 men.

The run will start at 6 am from in front of Circuit House in the city and will pass through Bandar, Zindabazar, Amberkhana and Airport Road-Baishtila, and will end in front of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Sylhet Runners Community’s own 213 volunteers will work in the event who will provide first aid support as well as road safety.

The dignitaries of Sylhet and high-ranking officials of the administration will be present at the closing ceremony of the event.

The administrator of Sylhet Runners Community said the purpose of this huge event. Hasan Ahmed said, ‘We always want to retain and protect our heritage.

I want to move forward. The main theme of Unimart Sylhet Half Marathon organized by Sylhet Runners Community in 2022 was the traditional Shital Pati of Sylhet.

Last year we wanted to introduce our traditional Shital Pati to the country and the world through marathon. You know that little by little our traditional Shitalpati was going to disappear.

We believe that with your help we have been able to present our traditional Shitalpati to the people.’

He said, ‘This time we are trying to take the Manipuri handicrafts of Sylhet a little further.

Manipuri Handicraft is a tradition of our Sylhet which is not developing due to lack of proper promotion and promotion.

Through this half marathon in 2023, we want to highlight traditional Manipuri handicrafts to the country and the world with your cooperation.
