Ishwardi beams with winter vegetables

Farmers of this district are busy with winter vegetable cultivation of Rabi season in Ishwardi, which is known as one of the largest vegetable production areas of the country.

Every year more or less profit can be made by cultivating rabi season winter vegetables which may not happen if cultivated at other times of the season. In the fields of Ishwardi, the winter vegetables of Rabi season are now smiling green in the fields.

Vegetables are grown in 7 thousand hectares of land in Ishwardi. In some of these lands, vegetables have been cultivated in advance.

Someone is busy picking vegetables in the field. Many are spraying pesticides. Someone is tending to the weeds of the land. Some are preparing land for cultivation. All in all, the field is filled with different types of vegetables including cauliflower, cabbage, radish, bitter gourd, gourd, radish, carrot, potato, brinjal, bean, tomato, red and spinach.

On Tuesday (November 14) a visit to the rural town of Elka shows the busyness of farmers with the winter vegetables of the rabi season. Farmers in various areas including Bhadimari, Naodapara, Munsidpur, Muladuli Madhyapara, Baghachla, Sahapur, Mirkamari are busy cultivating winter vegetables. Carrots, Radishes, Beans, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cabbage and Tomatoes are now being cultivated across the field. Serving morning and evening vegetables. Some are busy sowing seedlings and seeds.

Many people are taking vegetables from the field in advance and taking them to the market. Cultivation of beans is going on in the villages of Muladuli Union. Carrot cultivation has been seen more in Bhaimari, Naodapara, Mirkamari and Sahapur villages of Salimpur. Apart from this, Radish, Cauliflower, Tomato and Coriander cultivation is more in padma pasture area in Lakshikunda. Many farmers have already finished cultivating vegetables ahead of winter.

After picking them up, they are again preparing to grow vegetables on that land. All the seven unions are known for their vegetables. Today’s farmers grow a variety of vegetables twelve months of the year. Beans and pulses are grown continuously in Muladuli.

Hasan Sheikh of Salimpur, Meher Ali of Muladuli, Hasem Khan of Sahapur, several farmers of the area said that the farmers have cultivated almost three parts of the winter vegetable crops of Rabi season.

Many go to the field to pick vegetables for the market in the first part of winter. Because during this time vegetables are available and sold at good prices. In the second part, the farmers work on preparing the vegetables to market in the middle of winter. Vegetables are available at good prices during this time. But in the latter part, even if the vegetables are produced more, they are very insecure about getting a good price.

Salimpur Union Agriculture Deputy Assistant Officer Ariful Islam said that winter vegetables are being cultivated in the union. Carrot, Radish, Cauliflower, Cabbage and Beans are grown here. Besides, yield of tomato, coriander, red vegetables, spinach is also good. I am giving various advice to the farmers.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said that winter vegetables are cultivated in about 7 thousand hectares of land in Ishwardi. Various vegetables including beans, cauliflower, carrots and radish are cultivated. Rabi season started on October 16. Farmers are busy growing winter vegetables.

The farmers of the area themselves are very experienced in vegetable cultivation and seedling production. However, the agriculture department officials are always giving advice. If the weather is favorable and the market price is good, the cultivation of winter vegetables can be very profitable.
