Case against Mirza Abbas for amassing illegal wealth

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas yesterday started testifying for himself in a case filed against him for amassing illegal wealth and concealing the information of assets.
Judge Manjurul Imam of the Special Judge Court-6 of Dhaka adjourned the hearing till November 15 as recording the depositions was incomplete at the end of Sulday’s hearing.
Earlier in the day, two other defense witnesses, Shahjahan Miah and Qazi Shifaur Rahman Himel, testified in the case.
The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed a
defense plea to allow producing defense witnesses afresh.
The Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Abbas’s bail in the case and issued arrest warrant against him.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on August 16, 2007, filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 7.54 crore and concealing information about wealth of Taka 57.26 lakh.
ACC Assistant Director Md Khairul Huda after investigation of the case, submitted the charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Mirza Abbas for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 4.23 crore.
Later, the court on June 16 of the same year, framed charges against Abbas.
