Rangpur press confce demands preventing cigarette company malfeasance

A press conference was held to prevent the inefficiency of cigarette companies. On the occasion of National Tobacco Free Day 2023 on Friday, PF IT Training Center and Library organized the conference at Lalmonirhat on “Violation of National Tobacco Control Act, Negligence of Tobacco Companies”.
The press conference mainly highlighted the violation of tobacco control laws across the country by two foreign tobacco companies and their obstruction of the law amendment process.
Recommendations from the press conference were to finalize tobacco control law amendments as soon as possible, adopt a code of conduct in accordance with Article 5.3 of the FCTC to protect policies from tobacco company influence, activate task force committees, regularize quarterly committee meetings, properly implement meeting decisions, act imposing fines as well as jail time on tobacco companies and representatives for violations, taking appropriate action against violating tobacco companies, involving non-governmental organizations in tobacco control law monitoring activities, implementing a strong tobacco tax policy as announced by the Prime Minister.
