‘Sri Lanka will appeal ICC suspension’

Agency :
The ICC suspended Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC) membership with immediate effect on Friday, citing government interference in cricket in the country.

Following the country’s poor World Cup performance, Sri Lanka’s minister of sport tried to dissolve the SLC board and replace it with an interim committee, but the country’s Court of Appeal has put that decision on hold.

Furthermore, on Thursday, the Colombo parliament unanimously approved a proposal to remove the SLC leadership.

However, Ranasinghe denied any political intervention in the management of Sri Lankan cricket on Saturday, saying that the ICC decision was made without any consultation.
