UNB :
Eight more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 1,425 this year.
During the period, 1,895 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the DGHS.
A total of 6,555 dengue patients, including 1,722 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
So far, the DGHS has recorded 2,83,593 dengue cases and 2,75,613 recoveries this year.
September has so far been the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak this year with 396 fatalities and 79,598 cases, according to DGHS data. Dhaka registered 394 new cases and five deaths while the districts outside the capital saw 1,501 new patients and three fatalities.
Of the 6,555 patients receiving treatment in hospitals across Bangladesh in the morning, 1,722 were in Dhaka and 4,833 in other districts.
Experts have blamed a prolonged monsoon and rising temperature, along with a lack of effective measures to kill the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the known carrier of the virus, for the outbreak.
