Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team beat Pakistan Women’s Cricket team by three runs in the ‘Super Over’ of the second One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh Women piled up a satisfactory 169 for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then all out Pakistan Women for 169 off 49.5 overs.
As the match ended in a tie, the fate of the game was decided in the ‘Super Over’. Pakistan scored seven runs in the ‘Super Over’, while Bangladesh made 10 runs in the ‘Super Over’ and Bangladesh won the match.
Bangladesh had a modest start as opener Murshida Khatun (12) was stumped out by Najiha Alvi off Sadia Iqbal when the Tigresses’ score was 21.
One-down Sobhana Mostary (16) was trapped leg before wicket by Nashra Sandhu when Bangladesh’s total was 43 for the loss of two wickets.
Opener Fargana Haque and second-down Nigar Sultana built a worthy partnership contributing together 59 runs in the third wicket stand before Fargana Haque was run out by a joint-effort of Nida Dar and wicketkeeper Najiha Alvi when Bangladesh’s score was 92 for the loss of three wickets.
Fargana Haque knocked a sedate 40. Her 88-ball innings had three fours.
Nigar Sultana and third-down Fahima Khatun scored together 27 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Fahima Khatun (16) was trapped leg before wicket by Diana Baig when Bangladesh’s total was 119 for the loss of four wickets.
After Fahima’s dismissal, Bangladesh failed to make any notable partnership.
Nigar Sultana hit a captain’s knock of 54. Her 104-ball calm innings was belted with three fours. Nigar Sultana was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Nashra Sandhu and Sadia Iqbal bagged two wickets each instead of 27 and 32 runs respectively.
Umm-e-Hani, Nida Dar, Diana Baig took one wicket apiece.
Pakistan made a solid start with two openers Sadaf Shamas and Sidra Ameen putting on 41 runs before Sidra Ameen was dismissed by Fahima Khatun.
Later, Pakistan failed to build any remarkable partnership.
