Overhead internet cables and electrical wires pose a great risk of fatal accidents to city commuters.
Sources concerned said haphazard installation of overhead internet cables and electricity lines by Internet service providers and the power distribution business caused a good number of fatal accidents in the city’s historic district in the recent past.
Despite facing repeated hazards, the responsible persons seem remained unconcerned about alleviating the plight of city commuters. And this is due to their utter refusal to repair the risky wires.
Working near overhead power wires and cables can result in significant injury or death if the job is not carefully regulated. The most typical accidents include a vehicle being driven into electrical wires or a portion of a vehicle being elevated into them. Many of these mishaps are the result of a lack of training and inadequate risk management. The following cases demonstrate how quickly fatalities and major injuries may occur, but also how simple procedures could have averted them.
Director of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) Md. Jakir Hossain told The New Nation that we have already successfully taken some initiatives in this regard at Dhanmondi and if government focuses on this issue then it is possible.
He said implementing such a project is quite challenging, but not impossible.
“I think the overhead internet cables would be installed properly so that the beauty of the city is not tarnished,” he said.
