Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in their eights match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the capital city of India today. The Day/Night affair will start at 2.30pm (Bangladesh Standard Time). Private satellite sports channel T Sports and private satellite channel GTV will telecast the match live.
Bangladesh gained two points from seven matches, while Sri Lanka earned four points from as many outings. Both teams have no chance to reach the semi-finals.
Before today’s match, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka faced each other in four matches in ICC ODI World Cup. Of them, Sri Lanka registered three victories, while rest of the one match ended without any result.
Prolific wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim got injury in his finger when he did batting in the net at Delhi on Sunday. Due to air pollution of Delhi, members of Bangladesh Cricket squad and players of Sri Lanka Cricket team did not take part in their practice session on Saturday. After getting injury in his finger, Mushfiqur Rahim took first aid medication and then again batted in the net. But he could bat in the net for a few minutes. It is not known to us the condition of Mushfiqur Rahim. If Mushfiqur Rahim cannot play today, the Team Management of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will face problem to form a strong Bangladesh XI. Head Coach of Bangladesh Cricket team Chandika Hathurusingha said, “We have chance to play the upcoming Champions Trophy. Our side are still good. I am taking all responsibility as the Coach of Bangladesh’s dismal performance. We not only disappointed our supporters and our fans, we made ourselves also disappointed. There is no difference of our first match and tomorrow’s match. The skill of our team is not changed.”
He said, ” We have a lot of hopes. But we could not perform according to our expectations. We have to find out the reasons for our dismal performance. It will be decided by the BCB that I can coach the Bangladesh Cricket team.”
He also said, ” My boys could not perform according to their capability. They failed to present their best. I think too much expectation is the main reason for our disaster.”
Sri Lanka need plenty to go right for them if they are to sneak into the knockout stages of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and a commanding victory over Bangladesh is a crucial starting point.
Injuries to key players has hurt Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign, but the Island nation can still qualify for the semi-finals with victories over Bangladesh and New Zealand over the next week.
They will also need a host of other results to fall their way, but for now all they can concentrate on is registering a third win of the tournament by defeating fellow Asian side Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s sole victory at the World Cup came in their opening fixture against Afghanistan in Dharamsala and six straight losses since that match has left Shakib Al Hasan’s side without any hope of qualifying for the semi-finals.
