AL, BCL men attend ‘peace rally’ with rods, bamboos, local weapons
DU Correspondent :
Amid Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) restrictions on carrying any kind of sticks, rods or local weapons in the capital, the leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) and its student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were seen carrying sticks, rods, bamboos and native weapons while participating in the party’s ‘peace and development rally’ yesterday.
The AL and BCL men gathered at different places of the Dhaka University (DU) campus after parking vehicles and brought out a rally to the southern gate of the Baitul Mukarram mosque carrying rods, sticks and local weapons.
The followers of Mymensingh District Awami League Vice President Aminul Haque alias Shamim took out a procession from the VC Chatter of the university at around 1:00 o’clock on Saturday carrying sticks and bamboos in their hands and chanted slogans against BNP-Jamaat.
“Instructions have been given from the party’s high command that if any harm is done to us, we should be able to prevent it, so we have prepared,an Awami League worker named Manik Hossain said.
It also seen that the leaders and activists who had come to the DU campus and brought out procession have native weapons on their hands. Besides, some AL and BCL leaders also delivered the rods, sticks to their followers at VC Chatter after bringing those by a large vehicle.
On the other hand, the leaders and activists of BCL gathered at the TSC of the university with rods and sticks while the BCL men of the Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall branch of DU have come out with rods.
Apart from this, BCL leaders and activists have also boosted posts writing different captions with sticks on the Facebook wall.
However, the academic environment of DU was disrupted and the students encountered numerous challenges due to a large influx of vehicles and outsiders.
Besides, the DU campus resembled a chaotic ‘bus stand’ as numerous buses and microbuses occupied most of the available spaces and along the streets.
Despite repeated attempts, DU Proctor Prof Maksudur Rahman could not be reached for comment on the issue.
