Dengue claims 11 lives in 24hrs

Dengue claimed 11 more lives across the country during the last 24 hours till Friday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 1,317 this year.

Among the new fatalities, five were reported in the capital while the six others outside Dhaka, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) press release said.

According to the DGHS data, about 1,431 patients were hospitalised with viral fever during this period.

Of the new patients, 453 were admitted to the hospital in the capital and 1,314 are outside it.

The data said about 6,798 people diagnosed with the fever are taking treatment at different government and private hospitals across the country.

A total of 2,64,062 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country this year and 2,55,947 out of the hospitalized patients, however, recovered during the period.

The country recorded 281 dengue deaths in 2022, the highest on record after the 179 deaths recorded in 2019. Moreover, the DGHS recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
