BELA holds RTI training in Rangpur

Rangpur-based Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) organised a day-long “Stakeholder Training on Right to Information (RTI)” at the NGO Forum Auditorium in the city on Wednesday.

The main objective of the training was to enhance participants’ knowledge of the Right to Information Act, provide a clear understanding of its practical application, and raise awareness about ensuring the right to information.

At the workshop, Tanmoy Kumar Sanyal, Coordinator of BELA’s Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, discussed in detail the Right to Information Act, the relevant authorities, and the information application process.

BELA Programme and Field Coordinator AMM Mamun highlighted BELA’s experiences in implementing the Right to Information Act, its field-level activities, and various practical examples. Senior Information Officer of the Rangpur Regional Information Office, Md. Shahjahan Ali, also spoke at the event.

As part of the training, the participants were divided into three groups and prepared and presented applications on three different issues under the Right to Information Act. Through this group activity, they gained practical experience of the application process.

The entire programme was lively, participatory, and highly educational. During the open discussion session, the speakers said that the Right to Information Act is an important tool for ensuring access to information.

They noted that the effective implementation of the law would help establish transparency and accountability in the state, reduce corruption, and strengthen democratic practices.

At the same time, citizens were urged to become more aware of their right to information and to ensure the proper use of the law.

A total of 26 participants, including representatives of government and autonomous organizations from eight districts of Rangpur Division, NGO leaders, teachers, student representatives, and lawyers, took part in the training.
