Mymensingh-Dhaka route: Commuters suffer as bus services halted

News Desk :
Ahead of BNP’s grand rally on Saturday, the Transport Owners’ Association suspended the bus service on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route without any previous announcement, triggering immense suffering for commuters.

All types of passenger buses have been suspended on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway since Friday morning, reports media.

While visiting Maskanda Bus Terminal in Mymensingh city in the morning, no buses were seen leaving for Dhaka.

However, a rush of passengers from Mymensingh to Dhaka was seen since morning.

Some of the passengers who came to the terminal were returning home while some others were found trying to leave for Dhaka by alternative routes.

A passenger named Sarafat standing at the terminal to go to Dhaka said that Mymensingh has been cut off from the rest of the country as all forms of public transport including bus services have been suspended.

Passengers are suffering immensely, he said.

Another person named Samsher said that as his father was ill, he came to the bus terminal to go to Dhaka to meet his father. After coming to the terminal, he found that the bus services have been suspended.

Alam, the supervisor of Ena Paribahan of Maskanda bus terminal in Mymensingh city, said that the bus movement has been stopped following an order of the owners’ association to avoid any type of vandalism on Saturday.

He also said that bus services may remain suspended on Saturday as well.

Meanwhile, no Dhaka-bound buses were found at the city’s Akua bypass, and Shikarikanda bypass areas.
Momtaz Uddin, president of the owners’ association, could not be contacted.
