Construction worker stabbed to death in Sylhet

A young construction worker was stabbed to death and his companion was injured by another youth on Thursday night at Golabganj upazila in Sylhet. The deceased, Tajel Ahmad, 20, son of Mayan Miah of Amura village at Amura union under the Golabganj upazila, is a construction worker, police said.
The injured, Tanvir Ahmed, was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital after the incident in a critical condition, the police said.
Tanvir told reporters that Opu Ahmed of Kadamrasul village at the same Amura union and Tajel locked into an altercation over messages on Facebook Messenger in the past week over a trifling matter.
Following the incident, Opu and his six accomplices stabbed Tajel rampantly near Amanibazar of the Amura union at about 7:30pm on Thursday as he was returning home from the bazaar, leaving him critically injured, Tanvir said.
‘The attackers also stabbed me when I tried to resist stabbing Tajel,’ he said.
Golabganj police station officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam told that Tajel was sent to the SOMCH after rescuing him from the spot in a critical condition and he died at about 9:00pm while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
‘Tajel’s body was handed over to his family on Friday afternoon,’ the OC said, adding that action would be taken in this regard after receiving a written complaint from the victim’s family.
