Low income people in Kishoreganj suffer from price rise

Though the winter season vegetables have started appearing in Kishoreganjs kitchen market, but without making any good news, the price of daily essentials like rice, potato, fish, chicken, green chilli, onion and vegetables are increasing unrelentingly putting a fresh pressure on the already volatile kitchen market. Buyers are now struggling to buy vegetables.

Some of these vegetables have crossed Tk 170 per kg. Low income people are the most affected in this situation. It has become difficult for them to buy vegetables and not fish and meat.

The government could not control the market of eggs, potatoes and onions even by fixing the prices. Traders in Kishoreganj’s said that the price of vegetables has not increased so much in the last few years. Basically, this situation has arisen due to the failure of early vegetable crops in many parts of the country due to bad weather.

On Saturday, Bara Bazar, Kachari Bazar, Puranthana Bazar, Gaital, and Batrish areas in the town visited, and the prices of all types of vegetables have increased again in the last one week
Buyers were seen bargaining from one shop to another to buy vegetables.

In the market , according to the quality of various vegetables, brinjal 100 to 140 taka, tomato 100 to 120 taka, beetroot 90 to 100 taka, new bean 160 to 180 taka, carrot 100 to 120 taka, radish 70 to 80 taka. 80 taka, kachumukhi 90 to 100 taka, bitter gourd 90 to 110 taka, green pepper 200 to 240 taka, sweet pumpkin 50 taka per kg. Apart from this, papaya is being sold at the price of Tk 30 to Tk 35 per kg among the low priced vegetables.

There are now many people who, for health reason, now take only vegetables or more vegetables than foods that come from animal sources. Before, they did not have to spend much for a vegetables.

The government fixed the prices of eggs, potatoes and onions on September 14 to control the market, but it was not implemented.

When contacted, Assistant Director (AD) of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection. (DNCRP) in Kishoreganj, Rehdoy Ronjon Bonik told the New Nation that marginal farmers have started selling each egg at Tk 12 in some markets in Kishoreganj.

Broilers and other products are being sold at the price fixed of the government. We have teams of monitoring market, which are conducting raids every day.
