3 Manikganj fishermen sentenced for catching mother hilsa

A mobile court has sentenced three fishermen to one year’s imprisonment for defying the ban in the Jamuna River at Daulatpur in Manikanj.

Three people were fined 15,000 taka and 5,000 taka each. Besides, about 30 thousand meters of current net and 20 kg of hilsa were seized.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashikur Rahman Chowdhury and Assistant Commissioner (Land) SM Faiz Uddin jointly conducted the operation on Saturday. A team of Daulatpur Police station assisted in running the mobile court.

Daulatpur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) SM Faiz Uddin said that 3 fishermen have been sentenced to jail for fishing in violation of the ban.

Seized current nets were destroyed by fire and hilsa fish were distributed to local madrassas and orphanages. He also said that this campaign will continue.
