‘Govt working cordially to protect history, tradition’

A seminar on the fifth foundation day of Asiatic Society Heritage Museum was held at the Auditorium of the institute in the Nimtali area of Old Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.

Dr Shamsul Alam, the state minister for planning, was the chief guest in the event.

Dr. Hafiza Khatun, Vice Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology, presented the keynote titled “the picture on Society, Culture and Tradition of Old Dhaka” at the seminar.

The president of Bangladesh Asiatic Society, Professor Dr. Khondker Bazlul Haque presided over the session and among those who spoke at the session were Dr. Sidduqur Rahman, general Secretary of the institute.

In the seminar, state minister Dr Shamsul Alam said that the Bangladesh Asiatic Society is one of the vital research institutes and its tradition Museum is also our national assets.

This institute has been working on the people of the Asia, their lifestyle, profession, history, culture, tradition, science and philosophy for the last 70 years.

Asiatic Society has also become one of the top prominent institutes across the world for their basic research and intellectual activities.

Dr. Shamsul further said that present government is working cordially to protect the history, tradition as well as promoting the own culture by the leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In 2018, the doors of this museum were opened.

The journey of the fourth year has already started after three years.

We are proud to preserve the Deuri Bhavan and set up a museum with the history and heritage of Dhaka, said the speakers at the foundation day discussion.

Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid inaugurated the construction of the museum on January 23, 2017, and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor formally inaugurated the museum on October 2018.
