SUST holds int’l webinar

The Department of Political Studies of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology on Tuesday organised an international webinar on recent political developments in South Asia.
The virtual programme was held in the afternoon as part of a course styled ‘Politics and Governance in South Asia’ for the second semester of third year political studies students of the university, the organisers said.
Scholars and researchers from six countries – India, China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and Bangladesh – presented papers and attended in discussion during the webinar.
The webinar started at 3:00pm and continued till evening.
About 100 participants, including teachers and students of different departments of the SUST, attended the webinar, the participants said.
Professor Imtiaz Ahmed of international relations department of Dhaka University, Hu Xiaowen, director of South Asian Studies at the institute of international relations of Yunnan University in China, assistant professor Abhisek Karmakar of political science at the University of Bardhwan in West Bengal of India, associate professor Ejaz Hussain from the Lahore School of Economics of Pakistan, professor Chaminda Padmakumara of international relations of the Colombo University in Sri Lanka, and Md Moniruzzaman, associate professor of international relations of the University of Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates, joined the programme as the guest speakers.
SUST political studies head professor Syed Ashrafur Rahman chaired the webinar and professor Md Shahabul Haque moderated it.
Among others, the university professor Zayeda Sharmin, Md Nazrul Islam, Fahmida Aktar, Syeda Ismat Ara Jahan, Md Amdadul Haque, and Hajera Akter addressed the programme.
