New Nation Sadarpur correspondent Majeed dies of dengue

Valiant freedom fighter Abdul Majeed Mia (75), the New Nation correspondent of Sadarpur upazila, Faridpur died of dengue at his home on Tuesday night.He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter, along with numerous benefactors.

Faridpur-4 Constituency MP Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon expressed deep grief over his death. Apart from this, the president and general secretary of Faridpur Press Club, Sadarpur Press Club, Nagarkanda Press Club, Saltha Press Club, Madukhali Press Club, Saltha and Bhanga Press Club and Bhanga Press Club, along with all journalists, leaders of various political parties and civil society have expressed their condolences.

Hundreds of people thronged the house of late Abdul Majeed Mia from early morning to catch a glimpse of him and offer their condolences.

He was buried in the graveyard of Ramchandrapur village of Hatkrinchpur union of Sadarpurupazila, his village home, after giving national honour on Wednesday.

Abdul Majeed Mia has been working in The New Nation for a long time. He was the founder president of Sadarpur Press Club and senior member of Faridpur District Press Club.

He came to the country after training in the Great Liberation War in 1971 and directly participated in the battle.

His younger brother Nurul Islam said that he had been suffering from dengue for the past one week and was undergoing treatment at Sadarpur Hospital. He was brought home from the hospital on Tuesday. Later that night he fell ill and died shortly after.
