Clinker laden lighter ship sinks in Pashur channel

A lighter ship named MV Anmona-2 that was laden with come 850 metric tons clinker (raw materials for cement) sank in the Pashur channel of Mongla Sea Port while it was grounded with a shoal and a crack was appeared on its bottom at the time of taking a turn and consequently, it sank in the water along with 10 sailors at Sunday at 8 pm.

But all the 10 sailors managed to swim to the shore with the help of other sailors. Md. Enayet Hossain, the master of the ship confirmed the matter and told, after loading 850 tons clinker from a merchant ship ‘MV Jahan Brothers’ carrying the national flag of Bangladesh anchored with buoy No.

04 in the Harbour area of the Port on Sunday afternoon, left the harbour and anchored near at Kainmari area of the river Pashur and near at the signal tower of the Pashur channel.

Then the lighter ship MV Anmona-2 left the area for the “Seven Rings Cement Factory” (of Sung Sing Company) situated on the bank of the river Rupsa in Khulna at 8 pm. But when it was taking a turn it was suddenly stranded with a shoal of the river and a crack was appeared on its bottom.

Consequently, the ship sank in the river along with its all the ten sailors near at the signal tower. Fortunately all the sailors were able to swim to the shore.
