Dr. Sabira murder: Police find no clue in two years

Although almost 28 months have passed, the mystry of Dr Kazi Sabira Rahman alias Lipi murder remains still uncovered.
She was brutally murdered at her residence in Kalabagan of the capital on May 31, 2021.
Despite the help of his relatives, tenants and modern technology for a long time, the police have not been able to find out any clue thereof.
As a result, Dr Sabira issue is still stuck in the web of mystery.
Though, the case was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) from the police, they are yet to find any ‘breakthrough’ in their probe into the murder of physician Kazi Sabira Rahman although several years have elapsed after the incident.
But they hope that they will find out the clue very soon.
When asked about the progress of the case, Investigation Officer of the case and PBI inspector Mohammad Jewel Mia told The New Nation that husband Shamsuddin Azad has already questioned over the Dr Sabira murder.
“We are examining the information provided by him.”In a report submitted to the court, the PBI said Shamsuddin Azad concealed some vital information during questioning.
He married two more women before marrying Sabira.
But, he concealed one marriage to Sabira.
It led to conflict between the husband and wife, PBI IO said.
We are trying our uttermost to unearth the mystery of the murder.
Emphasizing the incident, PBI Chief (DIG) Banaj Kumar Majumder and other top officials of the department are also working together in order to unveil the accurate causes of the incident, IO Mohammad Jewel Mia added.
Earlier, deceased husband Shamsuddin Azad was arrested over the incident.
On the following case, the CMM court allowed police to question him under remand.
About the inspection of the murder, PBI Dhaka Metro North SP Jahangir Alam told The New Nation that we are doing our best to uncover fact of the incident.
We need more time to make a concrete decision.
And hopefully we will inform the matter to the media after proper investigation, SP Jahangir added.
In this regards, when tried to contact with PBI Chief (DIG) Banaj Kumar Majumder, but he couldn’t be reached for the comment.
When asked about the lengthy process of law enforcement on investigation, Dr. Tawohidul Haque, Associate Professor, Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka and also a criminologist, told The New Nation that actually our law is not equal for all people.
There are some classes who normally get preference taking better service considering their power and status.
Though now-a-days police are claiming; they are more valiant and modern to arrest the criminals unearthing the mystery of the incident, but we are confisued enough to see the leanghty process for thousands of cases including Dr Sabira issue, Dr Tawohidul added.
It may be mentioned that before renting the house in Kalabagan, victim Sabira lived in another flat on Bashiruddin Road in the same area.
Dr. Sabira’s second husband is former banker Shamsuddin Azad.
He lives with his first wife and one child at his home in Shantinagar. Dr. Sabira’s first husband’s name is Dr. Obaidullah. After Obaidullah’s death in 2003, she married Shamsuddin Azad in 2006.
Sabira used to live at her mother’s house on Green Road before renting a separate house in Kalabagan where her first child Ahmed Tajwar and second daughter live with their grandmother.
But the questions arise that why she lives alone without husband-children even left the mother’s home?
However, Sabira’s first child Ahmed Tajwar claimed that they had no quarrel with their mother.
According to Tajwar, after the corona infection, Sabira started living in a separate house for the safety of her children.
Tajwar also claims that there was no conflict with the stepfather.
On May 31, police recovered the body of Sabira from her flat in the city’s Kalabagan area. Sabira worked at the radiology department of the capital’s Green Life Hospital.
Following the incident, police detained three people – Kaniz Subarna, who shared the flat with Sabira, one of Subarna’s friends, and Ramzan, a security guard of the building – for questioning.
