KCC to help improve people’s living standard

A Stakeholder Dialogue on “Access to adequate housing with basic services in urban informal settlements” was organized in Khulna to discuss the availability and access of basic services for people living in the informal settlements in Khulna.
The objective of the dialogue was to ensure effective coordination among different government and non-government entities to provide holistic support to people living in the informal settlements and in terms improve their living standard.
The dialogue was organized on 15 October, 2023 at Hotel City Inn in Khulna.
The chief guest of the Stakeholder Dialogue Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Mayor, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) in his speech emphasized on the importance of coordination among different stakeholders working in Khulna.
He further promised KCC’s support towards all parties working for the development of the city.
The Chief Executive Officer of KCC, Laskar Tazul Islam, too highlighted the importance of coordination and suggested ways how different authorities within the government can function better and support development initiatives.
The Managing Director of Khulna WASA (Water Supply and Sewerage Authority) Md. Abdullah encouraged proper waste and water management within Khulna which in terms contribute to better living standard for all residents of Khulna.
They are different socio-economic factors that need to be addressed for a decent living.
Even in terms of housing, water, sanitation and hygiene, drainage system etc. there are many challenges that still persists in the society.
This condition of their lives is in many cases a hindrance to creating positive changes for the society.
As urban informal settlements are vulnerable to inadequate basic services in their daily lives, today’s dialogue with relevant stakeholders including community representatives is aimed at effective coordination and collaboration to improve their situation.
In this dialogue, the ways to mitigate the impact of climate change in the slums of Khulna city and improve the livelihood of low-income people by increasing their basic services and socio-economic capacity, including sustainable housing were discussed.
