Bagerhat man gets life term for committing rape

Women and Children Repression Tribunal-1, Bagerhat convicted a so-called Kabiraj (quack) named Ferdaus Shaikh (44) and sentenced him to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Tk. 50 thousand in default to suffer another RI (Rigorous Imprisonment) for one year more in a judgment delivered on Monday in absentia of the accused (rapist).
The judge also directed the state, in his judgment, to bear the cost for the maintenance of the livelihood of the child of the victim girl so long the child will be aged to 21 years.
The verdict also declared in the judgment that the child must be recognized as the legitimate of both convicted and the victim girl.
The money will be borne by the state should be realized from the both movable and immovable properties belonging the convicted.
The accused Ferdaus Shaikh, son of one Abul Hasan Shaikh hails from the village Jhaladanga under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district.
