Sarankhola sugarcane farmer happy over yield

Farmer Farooq Jamaddar succeeded in cultivating sugarcane in Sharankhola of Bagerhat.

He has succeeded in cultivating sugarcane for the first time this year and plans to cultivate it in more land next year.

Following him, his neighboring farmers also became enthusiastic about sugarcane cultivation.

Farmers of the area claim that sugarcane cultivation will increase several times in different villages of Sarankhola upazila in the future.

Talking to Faruk Jamaddar, a farmer of Khontakata village, it is known that he did not get the expected yield by cultivating Iri, Boro, Aman paddy in the land.

Then he started sugarcane cultivation instead of paddy cultivation in 10 katha land next to the house.

He planted sugarcane seedlings 6 months ago, which he started selling in the market from last week.

He has spent only 80 thousand rupees here. He expects to earn more than Tk 4 lakh by selling this sugarcane.

Sharankhola Upazila Agriculture Officer Debbrat Sarkar said that the farmers have been encouraged with all kinds of facilities including training. Many farmers have cultivated sugarcane this year.

The yield is also as expected. Due to the demand of sugarcane in the market, the farmers will get good prices.

Farmers have been encouraged to cultivate sugarcane, if the number of farmers increases, the Upazila Agriculture Office will conduct training on a large scale.
