Govt decorating garden again for one-sided vote: BNP

Staff Reporter :
The main opposition party-BNP on Wednesday said that the Awami League government has decorated the garden for staging another one-sided vote in the upcoming parliamentary election.

“The government has decorated a garden to hold another one-sided election as it had done in the past.

But the countrymen and the world community are now becoming a big obstacle to the government in doing the same.

The whole nation are now united to see an inclusive election,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while addressing a convention of professionals as the chief guest at the Engineering Institute in the capital.

Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad and Gonotantrik Peshajibi Oikkya Parishad jointly organised the event.

Mirza Fakhrul said the BNP and the other like-minded opposition political parties have been waging a simultaneous movement peacefully to press home their one point demand of ousting AL regime and holding the next polls under a neutral government.

“We have been peacefully protesting for almost two years; already 22 of our leaders and activists have been martyred in this ongoing agitation.

Still, our movement is peaceful, but we could not say the movement will always be peaceful in face of all the obstructions from the government,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

BNP Secretary General, however, slammed AL General Secretary Obaidul Quaders for his remarks about reaching an understanding with the US and India regarding the upcoming general polls.

“What do they mean by saying that an understanding has been reached? Has Delhi told you there is no need for elections? Tell us clearly,” Mirza Fakhrul questioned Quader.

“The Awami League has become so shameless that its general secretary is saying an understanding has been reached.

Earlier, the home minister said a discussion had been held.

In fact, there has been no discussion.

We know how much they are lobbying just to take photos, selfies,” the BNP leader said.

He said, “The people of the country do not trust the AL.

The people of the democratic world have also said they do not trust them anymore.”

“The world had made it clear that there were no chance of holding the next polls like the 2014 and 2018,” he said.

Mirza Fakhrul has termed BNP Begum Khaleda Zia an inspiration, saying, “She has made it clear that there can be no compromise on the restoration of democracy.

While others left the country during 1/11, the uncompromising leader Begum Khaleda Zia did not.

She stayed the country with the people.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Obaidul Quader said external pressure wasn’t a cause for concern as an understanding on sanctions and visa policies had already been reached.

“Two selfies with Joe Biden – one in Delhi and the other in New York – have proved to be the winning move.

Sanctions, visa policies – understanding has been reached on everything,” said Quader during his address to a rally in Aminbazar, located on the outskirts of the capital, on Tuesday.
