It is important to design and construct earthquake resistant buildings in earthquake prone areas like Sylhet. Emphasis should also be placed on sustainable construction and quality concrete.
Prof Dr. Rakib Ahsan of Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) said these things in the seminar on sustainable construction with durable concrete of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Limited.
The seminar was held at Kushiara International Convention Hall in South Surma, Sylhet on Monday.
The technical seminar was held by LafargeHolcim under the presentation of Engineer Masood Rana, Deputy Manager of LafargeHolcim.
Prof Dr. Rakib Ahsan of Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) presented the keynote speech in the seminar.
At the time, he said, we have to be more aware to protect the environment.
The damage to the environment caused by burning bricks should be stopped. Besides, the use of concrete instead of bricks should be increased.
Body recovered The police recovered the hanging body of a young man at the Pallavi drug addiction treatment center Pathantula in the Sylhet City on Sunday morning (September 25) around 3 pm.
The name of the dead youth is Adil Ahmad (29).
He is the son of Abdul Mosabbir of Mandaruka village of Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet.
He was admitted in Adil Pallavi drug addiction treatment center.
According to the police, based on the information provided by the healing center authorities, the Jalalabad police went and recovered the hanging body at around 3 pm.
Adil’s body was hanging from the ceiling fan in his bedroom. Apart from being a drug addict, he was also mentally unstable, said the authorities of the healing center.
Housewife murderer arrested A housewife was stabbed to death by a sensual young man after she did not agree to a bad proposal in Jahangir Miar Colony in the city on Monday.
The deceased Jasmine Begum (22) is the wife of Arif Mia of Kaheterteki village of Katiadi police station in Kishoreganj district. Their family lives in a rented colony in Jahangir Miar Colony in Chararpar area.

A case has been registered in this incident.
The police said that the accused was produced in the court on Sunday morning.
