Seven get life term for killing in Kishoreganj

A tribunal in Kishoreganj on Tuesday sentenced seven people to life imprisonment for killing an old man.

Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Saidur Rahman Khan announced the verdict in the afternoon.

The tribunal also fined Tk. 10,000 each, in default of payment another six months imprisonment.

The Public Prosecutor (PP) in Kishoreganj, Advocate Abu Nasser Farooq Sanju confirmed this verdict.

The convicts are Kashem Mia (50), Falan Mia (45) and Asad Mia (40), sons of late Abdul Gafur of Charkauna village of Pakundia Upazila, Al Amin (25), son of late Rafiq Mia, Enamul Haque (20), son of Abul Kashem, Abdur Rashid’s son Suman Mia (25) and Murshed Uddin’s son Masud (28).

Apart from Al Amin and Enamul Haque, five other accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.

According to the case diary (CD) , on December 27, 2018, at around 8:30pm, the accused who were returning home from Charkaona New Market on a motorcycle, injured the farmer Akhtaruzzaman (70) with ramda, kirich, iron rod and stick. Later, he was taken to Hossainpur Upazila Health Complex and the doctor on duty sent him to Kishoreganj 250 Bed General Hospital. The next morning, when his condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty referred him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

Later, the farmer Akhtaruzzaman died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

The victim’s wife Ashrafunnahar filed a murder case with Pakundia Police Station accusing seven people as the plaintiff. After the investigation of the case, on July 9, 2019, the then Sub-Inspector (SI) of Pakundia Police Station, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, accused all the seven and submitted the charge sheet to the court.
