Improving life standard of third gender stressed

Training on improving the quality of life of the third gender transgender community has started in Rangpur.

Additional Deputy Commissioner WM Raihan Shah inaugurated the 6-day training of 30 Hijras at Rangpur District Social Service Office Auditorium in Shalbon area of the city on Monday morning.

Deputy Director of Social Service District Office, Md. Abdul Matin, gave a welcome speech highlighting the overall aspects of the training under the supervision of Social Service Officer Noor E Jannat and Md. Arifur Rahman. Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Ruhul Amin, Additional Director of Divisional Social Services Office Mosharraf Hossain, Senior Journalist Zainal Abedin spoke as special guests. The speakers said that although the Hijra community is a small part of the total population of Bangladesh, this community is known as neglected and backward since time immemorial.

All the citizens of the country have the right to enjoy benefits equally, but they are victims of family, social and economic discrimination.

The speakers said that the transgender community is not a burden to the society, they are also members of this society.

They can also contribute to the society for the country.

If they can be trained in various trades through the Department of Social Services, they will also be financially empowered.

If these backward people can be trained and developed from today, they will no longer be a burden to the society.

In the event, it was informed that from 2015 to 2019, 35 hijras received computer training, 75 received sewing machine training and 40 received beautification training.

A total of 150 people were trained for 50 days through social service.
