Bodies of woman, daughter recovered in Naogaon
Staff Reporter :
Police recovered the hanging bodies of a mother and her teenage daughter in Naogaon’s Atrai upazila.
The incident took place on Saturday morning in Jamgram Bandhpara village of the upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Sabina Akhter (28), wife of one van driver Ariful Islam and her daughter Afroza (10).
Villagers alleged that Sabina’s goat damaged some trees in her neighbour Rekha’s yard on Wednesday.
At this Rekha got angry and locked the goat.Later Sabina was beaten up when she went to release the goat.
In this incident, Sabina was admitted to the local health complex and received treatment.
Then local UP member Ruhul Amin Sohag called an arbitration in the village on Friday night to settle the dispute between Sabina and Rekha.
During the arbitration, the UP member blamed Sabina and her child for the incident. Enraged by this, Sabina may have committed suicide along with her children.
However, denying the allegations, local UP member Ruhul Amin Sohag told the media that Rekha’s side was not present in Friday night’s meeting.
Rather, I went there to speak for Sabina. The arbitration was held in the presence of his family members and local Awami League leaders.
At that moment the matter was settled by holding hands of both Rekha and Sabina.
Then on Saturday morning I heard that Sabina committed suicide along with her daughter by the same rope.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atrai Thana Police Tarekur Rahman Sarkar said that two bodies were recovered from the scene and sent to Naogaon General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
So far, no one has filed a complaint with the police on behalf of the deceased’s family.
However, investigation is on to find the exact cause of death, the OC added.
