Pocketing huge commission target of buying 10 Airbus planes: BNP

Staff Reporter :
The main opposition party BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday alleged that the government is procuring 10 Airbus aircraft from France only for obtaining commission.

“While the people of the country are passing very hard days because of dengue outbreak across the country, the government welcomed foreign guest with dance and song.

Now they have planned to buy 10 airbus aircraft from France. Their motto is only to get huge commission from this procurement,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

He made the remark while addressing a gathering before starting the party’s bulletin distribution programme for building awarness about dengue fever in front of BNP’s Naya Paltan central office in the capital.

The BNP Secretary General said that the people of the country who were struggling to manage food in the ongoing calamitous state presumed that something good was happening during the France President’s tour of Bangladesh.

“But, what has happened? It’s said that 10 Airbus aircraft will be procured.

The government’s main target is to get kickbacks from this Airbus deal.

Do you understand the kickbacks? It means certain amount of commission from the procurement,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

“It is well established that there was no scope to get commission by procuring Boeing.

That is why 10 Airbus planes are being purchased by this government,” he said.

Mirza Fakhrul, also a former state minister for civil aviation, said, “The government was going to procure the Airbus aircraft though it could not ensure food for the people of the country, treatment for them and build hospitals and provide health services enough for the dengue affected people.

They (govt) also can’t ensure the people’s right to franchise.”

“The state-run Biman Bangladesh Airlines has nearly collapsed. Biman also can’t provide any service properly due to huge loss in recent times.

They are now purchasing the Airbus aircraft for creating scopes for stealing public money.

They (govt) have probably cut the commission immediately,” the BNP leader said.

Later, the BNP Secretary General inaugurated the three-day leaflet distribution programme taken by Dhaka South city unit BNP for creating public awareness to contain the dengue prevalence.

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Dhaka on Sunday on a short visit.

This was the first visit by any French president to Bangladesh in over last three decades.

Bangladesh committed to procuring 10 aircraft from Airbus company of France during Macron’s visit.
