Staff Reporter :
Police headquarters issued a new posting order for Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna Division Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Harun Or Rashid to Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Cox’s Bazar from the DMP on Sunday.
The new posting order was given several hours after the DMP had issued a transfer order of ADC Harun from Ramna crime division to Public Order Management (POM) division of the DMP for allegedly beating up two Chhatra League leaders inside Shahbag police station on Saturday night.
K N Roy Niyati, ADC (Media and Public Relations) of DMP confirmed it to the media.
However, the new posting order of police headquarters mentioned that ADC Harun must hand over his present charge to join his new work place APBn by Tuesday.
Otherwise, he will be termed as an instant stand release from Wednesday, according to the transfer order, signed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.
The Chhatra League leaders who were reportedly assaulted are Central Organizing Secretary and Dhaka University’s (DU) Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall unit President Anwar Hossain Nayeem; and Central Science Affairs Secretary and Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall unit General Secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim.
Some police officers, led by ADC Harun, allegedly beat up Nayeem and Munim inside the police station late on Saturday.
The two injured Chhatra League leaders were later taken to a private hospital for treatment.
According to classmates of the injured and others in Chhatra League, Harun was chatting with a fellow female police officer at Birdem General Hospital on Saturday night.
The female officer’s husband, who is also a BSC cadre, went there with the two leaders of Chhatra League.
At the time, there was an altercation between him and ADC Harun, which soon snowballed into a fight.
The two Chhatra League leaders were apparently taken to the police station and assaulted over this incident.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman after an event in the capital replied to a question from journalists saying whoever had done it, be it someone from the police or anyone else, would be punished for their wrongdoing
