40 injured as 2 Kishoreganj AL groups clash

At least 40 villagers were injured in a nearly 3-hour long clash between two groups of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) over a dispute centering Kabaddi game in Pulerghat area of Kishoreganj on Saturday noon.
The local sources, the Kabaddi game was organized locally on August 4. In this game, the people of Vitipara of Bangram Union of Katiyadi Upazila and Adarshpara of Patuavhanga Union of Pakundia Upazila fought. A dispute arose in the conduction of the game.
To resolve the dispute, the two parties fought again on Friday night. An arbitration was organized to settle the dispute on Saturday morning.
During the arbitration, supporters of Zaman group led by former Additional DIG Abdul Kahhar Akander and followers of Alam group backed by local MP Noor Mohammad clashed with each other with indigenous weapons.
Both Abdul Kahhar and Noor Mohammad are seeking AL nomination from the same seat in the coming parliament election.
Vehicular movement was stopped on Pulerghat-Gachihata road during the clash. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police said at least 35 people from the both sides were injured in the clash lasted from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.
The injured villagers have been admitted to different hospitals.
