The country on Saturday recorded 10 more deaths from dengue in the last 24 hours, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 716 this year, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
As per the data of the DGHS, 2, 748 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, during the period.
Among the new patients, 1051 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside it, the DGHS data showed.
It said also a total of 1,0198 dengue patients, including 4,411 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
So far, the DGHS has recorded 1, 45335 dengue cases, 13, 4421 recoveries.
The country logged 281 dengue deaths in 2022 – the highest on record after 179 deaths recorded in 2019. Also, it recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
Meanwhile, the government gave permission to import seven lakh bags of saline from the neighboring country India and 3.50 lakh bags will arrive in the country within 2 days.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque told this to the media after inaugurating some inter-department units in Colonel Malek Medical College and Hospital, Manikganj marking the Hospital Day on Saturday.
He said there is no shortage of saline in the government and private hospitals in the country. But some people claimed that saline is not available in the markets.
The minister said they will import seven lakh bags of saline from the neighboring country India and 3.50 lakh bags will arrive in the country on Sunday or Monday.
He said three lakh bags of saline will arrive in the country within a short time. He also talked to the patients of the medicine department of the hospital.
Replying to a query, the minister said dengue is not only increased in Dhaka but outside of the city.
Over 1.50 people are, so far, infected by the mosquito-borne disease across the country.
He said about 25,000 people are hospitalised everyday after infecting with dengue fever.
He said to eradicate mosquitoes initiative against the Aedes should be taken round the year, not for few months.
