Need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies stressed

The International Literacy Day was observed on FRiday in Natore as elsewhere in the country in a befitting manner.
This year’s theme of the day is ‘Promoting Literacy for a World in Transition: Building the Foundation for Sustainable and Peaceful Societies’.
The 8th of September was proclaimed as International Literacy Day by the UNESCO in 1966 to remind the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.
On the occasion, a colourful rally was brought out from the collectorate building premises that paraded the important streets and ended Deputy Commissioner’s Office that morning.
After the rally, a discussion was held at the Conference Room of DC Office. DC Abu Naser Bhuiyan presided over the discussion .
Emdadul Haque, Assistant Director of the Non-formal Education Bureau of the district, presented the main article in the discussion.
The speakers said that Bangladesh is moving forward on the path of development and prosperity.
The government is working to improve the quality of livelihood of about 24 percent of the population of the country, who are out of literacy, by providing them with literacy.
District Primary Education Officer Md Golam Nabi, President of Natore Press Club Faraji Ahmad Rafiq Baban, Executive Director of non-government organization ‘Alo’s Shamima Laiju Neela, Educationist Subidh Kumar Maitra, among others, spoke at the programme.
Heads of various educational institutions of the district, representatives of non-government organizations, teachers and students of various academic institutions, among others, were present.

Marking the day, the District Administration and the Bureau of Non Formal Education(BNFE) jointly organised programmes including discussion.
A discussion meeting was also held at Collectorate conference room on Friday morning.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj, Md. Abul Kalam Azad attended as chief guest and. Police Super (SP) Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PMM (Bar) and District Awami League( AL) General Secretary advocate M. A Afzal were special guest while ADC (Education & Ict) Farzana Khanam presided over.
It was addressed among others by, Assistant Director (AD)in Non Formal Education , CAB district president or Alam Sarowar Tito, senior journalist Mostafa Kamal, and BRAC district manager Shafiul Islam.
DC Abul Kalam Azad said that, following the education philosophy of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and under the prudent leadership of Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter PM Sheikh Hasina, the government is taking and implementing multi faceted initiatives for the development of education.
SP Mohammad Rasel Sheikh said the overall development of the country and its human resources are fully dependent on Education and its progress.
Alam Sarowar Tito, President Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) said that underscored the need for bringing all children including chars and remote areas of the country and help them be worthy citizens of the country to build an enlightened nation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) S. M. Ferdous Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Nasreen Sultana, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Najma Binte Amin, District Education Officer Mridul Kanti Talukder, among others, spoke on the occasion.
