The country on Tuesday recorded the deaths of 11 more dengue patients along with 2,782 people hospitalised during the last 24 hours.
According to the latest data of the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS), the death toll has now surged to 657, and the total number of cases stood at 1,35,916 this year.
Among the new cases, 951 were reported in Dhaka city and 831were from various parts of the country.
So far 1,26,127 dengue patients were released from hospitals in the country this year.
A total of 9,132 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. Of them, 4,049 are in Dhaka while 5,083 are outside of the capital city, it added.
On September 2, a total of 21 dengue-related deaths were reported which was the highest number in a single day this year.
The authorities have recorded the highest number of dengue-positive cases outside Dhaka in August this year meaning the mosquito borne disease has gripped the entire country.
The country recorded 281 dengue deaths in 2022 following 179 casualties in 2019.
Besides, the DGHS recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
Meanwhile, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) urged rapid action as dengue cases in Bangladesh are on rise sharply.
“The higher incidence of dengue is taking place in the context of an unusual episodic amount of rainfall, combined with high temperatures and high humidity, which have resulted in an increased mosquito population throughout the country,” WHO said.
