The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday set October 4 to submit further investigation report in the case lodged over the alleged attack on the convoy of the then US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia S Bernicat in August of 2018.
Metropolitan Magistrate Zaki-al Farabi set the new date as Detective Branch (DB) of police failed to submit the report on Monday.
On last January 1, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury ordered DB to further investigate the case and submit report.
Badiul Alam Majumdar, Secretary of Shusashoner Jonno Nagorik (SUJON), filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station in the capital on August 10 on the charge of attack on the convoy on August 4 of 2018.
It has been known that the accused people vandalised the house of the complainant and made death threats to his wife and son, according to the charge sheet.
On March 1 of last year, the court framed charges against nine accused and they are- Firoz Mahmud, Naimul Hasan Rasel, Mir Amzad Hossain Akash, Sazu Islam, Razibul Islam Razu, Shahidul Alam Khan Kajol, Mozahid Azmi Tanna, Siam and Oli Ahmed alias Joy.
As the trial begun, six prosecution witnesses testified in the case when involvement of another accused Istiaq Mahmud came up.
In the circumstances, Public Prosecutor of Dhaka Abdullah Abu sought further investigation of the case.
Following the appeal Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rahman Siddiqui of Dhaka CMM Court ordered for further investigation of the case on January 1 of this year.
