‘US keen to invest more in BD’

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said on Thursday that the United States is interested in strengthening economic ties with Bangladesh by investing more in different sectors including automobile, agriculture, energy and digital transaction.

The minister made the statement while he was talking to reporters after a meeting of the US-Bangladesh Business Council at the Finance Minister’s office on Thursday.

Kamal said the US business team has expressed interest in the production and export of soybean oil from Bangladesh.

“The VISA company came, and they asked for cooperation in the digital payment system.

They said there will be a big consumer market in Bangladesh.

They are interested in investing (in this sector),” he added.

They think that Bangladesh is a fertile land for investment, the finance minister said.

When his attention was drawn to the prices of all essential commodities and inflation, the minister said that when they took charge inflation was 12.3.

Later, the inflation was reduced to 9 per cent in a month, and inflation had remained 7.5 per cent for a long period, he said.
