30,000 people in 10 Ishwardi villages passing inhuman life
Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :
Unplanned building construction, earth filled water drainage canals and Ishwardi-Dhalarchar Railway line have resulted in water logging due to rain water.
About 30,000 people from ten villages are living inhumane life, but there is no one to see.
Several farms including educational institutions, houses, crop fields, roads, ponds have been submerged.
Common people of the area faced with loss of huge money along with suffering in their daily life.
People of 10 villages bordering Dashuria and Muladuli Union of Ishwardi Upazila are living a helpless life due to waterlogging.
It can be seen on the surface, the people of Dashuria, Munsidpur, Saraikandi, Dahnpara, College Para, Karigarpara, Lakshikola, Chandpur and other nearby villages, cattle farms, Dashuria Madinatul Uloom Alim Madrasa and a part of the grounds of Dashuria Degree College have been submerged under water.
The depth of water varies from 6 inches to 4 feet at different places.
The tube well is submerged under water.
As a result, there is an extreme shortage of clean drinking water.
Ducks are swimming in the yard, chickens are living in the trees.
Everyone is doing their work drenched in water.
Some are traveling by boat again. Some are using irrigation pumps for home water drainage.
Suleiman Fakir, the victim, said that two industries named Rashid Paper Mill and AR Feed, which were built in an unplanned manner on the cropland, were built in the last 4 years.
During the construction of these structures, the soil in the low-lying cropland was raised and waterlogged.
Even though they protested to the public representatives several times to resolve the waterlogging, nothing but assurance was met with the fate of the local residents.
Bazlur Rahman said, I have been suffering from pain for about four years.
In order to get rid of this situation, the local residents have appealed to the representatives and Bangladesh Railways several times to construct a drain along the railway line.
As no initiative is taken to construct drains, the areas get flooded with little rain.
It is causing loss of billions of rupees including the crops of the land.
Several local residents including Mahela Begum said that before the election, the area was marked by the leaders’ march.
But for the past four years, we have not seen even their shadow even though we have been trapped in this confinement of water.
When Dashuria union chairman Bakul Sardar was contacted on his mobile phone, he said, I have repeatedly urged the upazila administration and LGED engineer.
It was not possible despite many attempts.
Muladuli chairman Abdul Khalek Malitha said, I have informed the MP of Pabna-4 constituency to free people from this state of imprisonment.
He visited. He assured to take action.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Subir Kumar Dash said I am new here.
The problem is long standing, but I don’t understand why no action has been taken.
Trying to find a quick solution.
