Five killed as covered van hits auto-rickshaw in B’baria

At least five persons were killed and another was injured when a covered van rammed an auto-rickshaw in Brahmanbaria on Monday noon.
The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sohagpur bus stand area in Ashuganj upazila around 1pm.
Of the deceased, two have been identified as Md Sohel Miah, 27, son of Farid Miah and Jilani, 8, son of Nazmul Miah of Boroibari area at Sarail upazila in the district.
Akul Chandra Biswas, Officer-in-charge of Khatihata Highway Police Station, confirmed the matter to the media saying that a Dhaka-bound covered van hit a standing auto-rickshaw when it was picking up passengers in the area, leaving three people dead on the spot and two others injured.
Later, the injured were taken to 250-bed Brahmanbaria General Hospital where the two died around 1pm.
Action in this regard is under process, the OC added.
