The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested six Chhatra Dal leaders while they were planning and taking preparations for conducting an attack.
The DB also seized three foreign firearms from the possession of the JCD leaders.
According to DB sources, the accused six leaders procured many firearms on the orders of BNP central leaders to create an unstable situation in the country ahead of the upcoming national election.
DMP Joint Commissioner (Cyber and Special Crime and DB North) Khondkar Nurunnabi confirmed this in a press conference at DMP media centre on Sunday.
According to the DB official, they also gleaned the information about firearms in the Whatsapp conversations of the arrested individuals.
The accused collected two of the weapons from Pabna and one from Teknaf, Nurunnabi said.
The BNP had earlier alleged that the six Chhatra Dal leaders were picked up by plainclothes men on Friday, but Nurunnabi said on Sunday that they were arrested on Saturday night from Lalbagh by Gulshan police.
It is mentionable that 12 other BNP leaders and activists, including Robin, the son of BNP leader Salahuddin, were arrested by DB last night during another drive.
