There has been no respite from the country’s deepening dengue fever crisis as nine more lives have been claimed by the disease within the past 24 hours ending Friday morning.
Concurrently, an alarming surge of 1,565 fresh cases has led to a rapid influx of patients seeking medical care in hospitals across the country.
The total tally of dengue cases this year has now soared to a staggering 95,877, indicating the severity of the ongoing outbreak.
In an official press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday, authorities revealed that a total of 1,565 individuals have been admitted to hospitals nationwide due to dengue fever over the past one day.
Among these cases, 804 were reported in the capital city of Dhaka, while 761 cases emerged from regions outside Dhaka.
Over the same period, a glimmer of hope shines as 2,644 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals across the country, offering some respite to the overwhelmed healthcare facilities.
Of these discharges, 978 patients were released from various hospitals within Dhaka city, and 1,666 from hospitals located outside the capital.
This year’s dengue toll has now reached a grim total of 453 deaths. Among them, 343 fatalities were reported within Dhaka city, while 110 occurred in regions outside Dhaka.
As of the latest update on August 18, the escalating crisis has culminated in the reporting of 95,877 confirmed dengue cases this year.
Among these, 46,933 cases emerged within Dhaka city, while 48,944 cases were recorded in locals beyond Dhaka.
The current scenario reveals 7,573 dengue patients undergoing treatment within hospitals nationwide.
Out of this count, 3,623 individuals are receiving medical care within Dhaka city, while the remaining 3,950 patients are being treated in hospitals outside Dhaka.
Amid the ongoing crisis, the discharge rate of dengue patients from hospitals stands at 92.6 per cent, providing some semblance of recovery amidst the challenges.
The hospitalisation rate remains at eight per cent, while the mortality rate holds steady at 0.5 per cent.
Comparatively, data from the preceding year, spanning January 1 to December 31, disclosed that a total of 62,382 patients were admitted to various hospitals across the nation, with 281 deaths attributed to dengue fever during the same period.
As the dengue outbreak continues to escalate, authorities are grappling with the formidable task of mitigating its impact on public health.
