National Mourning Day observed

The National Mourning Day and 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed here in a befitting manner with due respect and solemnity in Rangpur Tuesday.

The divisional and district administrations, Rangpur City Corporation, Rangpur Metropolitan Police, Rangpur Range Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13, Awami League, different government departments, educational institutions, sociocultural and professional and other organisations observed the day through elaborate programmes.

The observance began with hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop all ngovernment, semi-government, autonomous, private buildings and educational institutions after sunrise.

Wearing black badges, officials, political leaders, freedom fighters, heads mof different organizations, institutions and departments and commoners placed wreaths at the Mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the morning.

The district administration arranged the main discussion at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium followed by prize distribution with the Deputy Commissioner in the chair.

The district, city and upazila units of Awami League and its associate bodies, district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad and many other organisations observed the day with elaborate programmes.

Divisional Commissioner Md Habibur Rahman, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police Md Abdul Baten and Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman placed there wreaths.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mobasswer Hasan, Superintendent of Police Md Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, District Council Chairman and former district unit Commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad heroic freedom fighter Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, Conveners and Joint Conveners of Rangpur district and metropolitan units of Awami League, leaders of its different associate organisations and political parties also placed wreaths there.

A smart contingent of Rangpur Metropolitan Police gave a guard of honour in front of the Mural of Bangabandhu in presence of high officials followed by observance of a one-minute silence paying due respect to Bangabandhu and offering special munajats there.

Milad mehfils were organised and special munajats offered at all mosques after the Johr prayers and at mandirs, churches, pagodas and educational institutions at their convenient times seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his other family members.

The District Shishu Academy organised competitions on poem recitation, drawing and ready speech for children focusing on the life, works and sacrifice of Bangabandhu and true national history.

Documentary films on Bangabandhu on his historic March 7 speech and struggles for independence and feature films on the War of Liberation were screened at important places.

Sr. Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj says: The National Mourning Day and 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed on Tuesday with a fresh vow to bring back the convicted killers of Bangabandhu to the execute their conviction.

Bangabandhu and most of his family members were brutally killed by some disgruntled military men on the fateful night of August, 15,1975 and this carnage is touted as the ugliest chapter of the nation ‘s history.

An elaborate programme was held.

The programme includes hosting of National flag half- most, raising black flag , placing wreaths, discussion meeting , art competition of Children, Doa Mahfil and film exhibition.

Dr. Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi MP, District Administration in Kishoreganj .,District Police,, Kishoreganj. Pourashava, Ansar & VDB, the ruling Awami League( AL), Press Club, Chamber of Commerce, Ganatantree Party, JASOD , Freedom Fighters , Mohila Parishad, BMA, DNCRP – CAB and social -cultural organisations have arranged many programmes marking the Mourning Day.

A discussion meeting was held at Art Council Auditorium on Tuesday morning.

Md. Abul Kalam Azad,Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj presided over the function.

Police Super( SP) Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar) and Zilla Parishad Chairman and District Awami League President advocate Zillur Rahman, Former MP Dilara Began Asma, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr. Saiful Islam, District Awami League General Secretary , Special PP Advocate M.A. Afzal and Mayor Pervez Miah were attended as Special guests.

It was addressed among District Awami League (AL) Senior leader Freedom Fighter.

Anowar Kamal , Mohila Awami League district general secretary Bilkis Begum, krishak league district secretary Anowar Hossain Bachu, Chatra League district president Sumon Mollah and ADC (General) Rubel Mahamud.

District Awami League arranged a discussion, doa – mahafil at its office premises.

Syed Nazrul Islam medical College (SNIMCH) arranged a discussion and doa – mahafil at its Auditorium on Tuesday.

Director Dr.Md.Helaluddin presided over the meeting.

Gazipur Correspondnet reports : Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) was observed the 48th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day on Tuesday with profound respect.

A day-long programme was arranged to commemorate the day.

The day’s programmes were begun with half-mast the national flag in front of the BARI headquarters.

BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker with other directors of the institute laid wreaths at the portrait of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Scientists, officers, teachers, staff, and labors of the institute were present on the occasion.

The day’s programmes also included speech based on Bangabandhu’s biography, historical speech of March 07 and purely national anthem competition with the participation of students, discussion program, recitation from holy Quran, documentary exhibition, special prayers and Milad Mahfil.

In the morning, a discussion programme was held at Kazi Badruddoza auditorium of the institute.

BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker, Director (Support & Services) Dr. Ferdouse Islam, Director (Research) Dr. Md. Abdullah Yousuf Akhond, Director (Planning & Evaluation) Dr. Dilwar Ahmed Choudhury, Director (Oilseed Research) Dr. Md.Tariqul Islam, Director (Tuber Crops Research Center) Dr. Sohela Akhter, Director (Horticulture) Dr. Gobinda Chandra Biswas were addressed the program.

Representatives of BARI Scientist Association (BARISA), Bangabandhu Krishibid Parishad, Diploma Krishibid Parishad, BARI Employees Welfare Association (BARIKA), BARI Labors Club also addressed the function.

Ishwardi (pabna) correspondent says: The National Mourning Day was observed by the initiative of Ishwardi Upazila Awami League through various programs.

After hoisting the flag in the morning, wreaths were placed on the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Later, apart from blood donation program, blood group determination and diabetes test program, taking and distributing food to the needy, Bad Asr Milad and prayers were held in the afternoon.

Chief Guest was the Member of Parliament of Pabna-4 Constituency, heroic freedom fighter Alhaj Nuruzzaman Biswas.

President of Upazila Awami League and Chairman of Upazila Parishad, heroic freedom fighter Alhaj Naib Ali Biswas presided.

Upazila Awami League general secretary former mayor Alhaj Abul Kalam Azad Mintu conducted the event.

Borhanuddin (Bhola)Correspondent reports : Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and martyrs on August 15 were remembered on Tuesday through various programs at Borhanuddin, Bhola.

Along with the upazila administration, Borhanuddin Municipality, Upazila A-League, Bhola Polytechnic, Government Abdul Jabbar College, Borhanuddin Kamil Madrasa, Ojopadiko celebrated the day with various events.

In the morning, MP Ali Azam Mukul laid wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the upazila square.

One by one, upazila administration, police department, health department, heads of educational institutions, leaders of political parties and their affiliated organizations placed wreaths on the portrait of the Father of the Nation.

After the wreath laying, a discussion meeting was held at the upazila parishad auditorium organized by the upazila administration.

After the discussion, prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions.

At the end of the event, Bhola-2 Constituency Member of Parliament Ali Azam Mukul, Upazila Chairman Abul Kalam Azad and Municipal Mayor Md. The huge mourning rally led by Rafiqul Islam started from the upazila square and circled the various roads of the city and ended at the same place.

Apart from political leaders, people from different classes and professions participated in the condolence rally.

Apart from this, Borhanuddin Kamil (Alia) Madrasa, Bhola Polytechnic Institute, Government Abdul Jabbar College, Borhanuddin Women’s Degree College celebrated the National Day of Mourning through various programs including tree planting, discussions and prayers.

Tarash (Sirajgnaj) Correspondent adds: On the occasion of the 48th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day, a discussion meeting and prayer Mahfil was held in Tarash Upazila Sirajganj in the Upazila Parishad Auditorium under the chairmanship of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mezbaul Karim, organized by the upazila administration on Tuesday .

Later Maulana Md Saiful Islam conducted prayers for the soul of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and for the welfare of the countrymen organized by the Islamic Foundation.
