BD caught in China containment game: FM

Staff Reporter  :
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said that the developed countries cannot tolerate China’s progress and wish to contain the country.

Due to its geographical location, Bangladesh has been caught in this game, he further said.

He came up with the comments while replying to questions from journalists during during the inauguration of various development projects in Sylhet Sadar Upazila on Friday.

“The developed countries cannot tolerate the China’s progress.

They want to contain China. Bangladesh has been caught in this game owing to its geographical position. But Bangladesh will overcome it,” he said.

He further said that the foreigners have eyes on Bangladesh because of its geographical and economic aspects.

Foreign Minister mentioned that the government does not want anyone to engage in smuggling out money from Bangladesh to foreign countries.

“The Awami League government does not want that. Some individuals have been flourishing abroad for the past 15 years. How is that possible? Certainly, they have taken money.

If we can stop money smuggling in the future, the country will become much more prosperous,” he said.

Regarding international comments about Bangladesh, he stated that from January to July, elections were held in 67 countries around the world.

“Those don’t bother us. Only Bangladesh is being targeted. Due to geographical and economic reasons, Bangladesh is now very important globally. That’s why foreign countries are interested in Bangladesh,” he said.

Referring to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the Foreign Minister indicated that a certain party and their expatriate supporters are spreading negative propaganda about Bangladesh to foreigners.

“They don’t reach the people. They only cater to foreigners. They don’t come to the people. They are becoming a party of complaints,” he said.

In the inauguration program of development projects, Mayor Anwaruzzaman Choudhury of Sylhet City Corporation, Shafiqur Rahman Choudhury, President of Sylhet District Awami League, Ashfaq Ahmed, Chairman of Sylhet Sadar Upazila Parishad, and Vice Presidents of Sylhet District Awami League, along with local Awami League leaders and members, representatives, and officials from various departments in Sylhet Sadar Upazila, were present.
