Shakib to lead Tigers in Asia Cup, World Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named Shakib Al Hasan as the new Captain for the Bangladesh ODI Cricket team.

The President of Bangladesh Cricket Board Nazmul Hassan, MP, announced the appointment of the ace all-rounder as the new Captain of Bangladesh ODI Cricket team in Dhaka on Friday.

Hassan said, “Shakib was the obvious choice to captain Bangladesh when the position fell vacant.

I am very confident that his exemplary performance, experience, and leadership qualities will galvanise the team as we head into two massive events like the Asia Cup and the World Cup.”

The 36-year-old Shakib makes a return as the ODI captain having previously led Bangladesh in 52 ODIs between 2009 and 2017.

He replaces Tamim Iqbal who had stepped down from the role earlier this month.

Shakib Al Hasan played 235 ODI matches.

He scored 7221 runs with an average of 37.36.

His strike rate is 82. 56.

The left-hand batter struck nine centuries and 53 half-centuries in his ODI campaign.

His highest score is 134.
The southpaw is also successful in bowling in his ODI career.

He captured 305 wickets with an average of 28.98.

His best bowling figure is 5/29.

The left-arm off-spinner have four five-wicket haul in his ODI mission.

His has a tremendous 4.44 economic rate.

His strike rate is 39.44.
The 36-year-old Shakib Al Hasan made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club Ground in Harare of Zimbabwe on August 6 in the year of 2006.

He last played his ODI match against Afghanistan at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on July 11, 2023.

Shakib Al Hasan is the only Bangladesh cricketer, who have above seven thousand runs and above three hundred wickets in his ODI career.

Shakib is not only successful in his ODI mission but also has got success in his Test and T20I career.

Besides, He played almost all kinds of franchise based cricket competitions at home and abroad and got success in those cricket tournaments.

Shakib named ‘Cricketer of the Year’, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for several times.

Shakib is the only Bangladesh all-rounder, who is one of the contenders of the greatest ODI all-rounder of all time of world cricket.
