‘Govt working to reform CSA’

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury has said that the government is working to reform the Cyber Security Act (CSA).

He said opinions from all stakeholders would be taken into consideration in the process. The government is also considering how the law can best be utilised in the interests of the people and the state.

The state minister made the remarks at a discussion meeting on preventing misinformation and propaganda on social media in Mymensingh. He said the government is working to ensure the freedom of the people and journalists.

At the same time, measures would be taken to prevent misuse of the law. Everyone has the right to criticise the government, he said, adding that opposing the state would amount to sedition and action would be taken against such offences.

Yaser Khan Chowdhury further said that not all problems can be solved through legislation alone. Therefore, the government is placing emphasis on moral education and public awareness.

He said the government is giving priority to establishing a mini stadium in every upazila and playgrounds at the union level.

“The government is working to build a beautiful and positive Bangladesh,” he said.The discussion titled “What Should Be Done in the Context of the Spread of Misleading Information and Propaganda on Social Media” was held at the conference room of the Mymensingh District Commissioner’s Office on Thursday.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury attended the event as the chief guest, while Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman chaired the programme.

Umme Habiba Meera, Deputy Director (In Charge) of the Local Government Branch of the District Commissioner’s Office, presented the keynote paper.Students and teachers from various schools and colleges in Mymensingh, along with journalists working for different media outlets, attended the discussion.
